Counting time in field service, having to wait so long and answer Q's for baptism when it was done on the spot (Philip & Ethiopian) with no questions asked but the required ones: Admit you are a sinner in need of forgiveness and have you accepted Jesus as your savior? That's it. Simple. Why wait a year or two when you already did this a loooooong time ago? It's against the Bible to wait if you feel you are ready now. All of that is true if you believe in the Bible. If not, never mind. I just think that if a religion says that it follows the Bible, it ought to do so accurately.

Was There Something That Ever Bothered U About The "Truth" While U Were In?
by minimus inwhen i used to read the prophecies of revelation and see the society's interpetation i often thought to myself, "how could this be"?
i shelved a lot of things, hoping that maybe i'd understand over time or the "light would get brighter".. as an elder, i used to wonder how they (the society) could tell the elders one thing and put into print another thing.
while the rank and file were being told at the watchtower studies how the elders were to not judge unfairly at judicial committees, the elders were told to be safe rather than sorry when it came to "removing the wicked man from our midst".

Crumpet,
You poor thing! No wonder you quit, among other reasons, of course. Your family forced it down your throat. My dad's parents did that to him and his brother. Their WT studies at home would last 4 hours! His brother wants nothing to do with it and my dad doesn't go but listens on telefon. That is an awful childhood. No kidhood at all .

Oh my god! That is sick! It makes sense, though. Mercy was only lip service, put into practice though could contaminate Jehovah's Christian congregation. Can't have that!
Birthdays and Thanksgiving were my big Q. How can saying thanks to God be bad? The reasons they gave were never good enough for me. Heaven celebrated Jesus' birth but I could not celebrate his nor mine nor anyone else's. I was raised in it so I bought most everything else easily enough. Holloween was certainly understandable from a Christian standpoint, but I didn't see the wrongness of dressing up and leaving the devil out of it. God created the seasons, right? Let's celebrate it!
When I was a teen, I wanted to go to heaven so badly that I thought that I might be of the 144,000. I asked my mom lots of Q's about that and had to settle for earth . I have always wanted to partake of the emblems at memorial. I idolized the anointed
After reading The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived (admit it, it's the only really good book they wrote), I wanted to worship Jesus, but was not allowed. I wanted to pray to him, but didn't dare, so I told Jehovah that this prayer was for Jesus, too:)

Ever get spanked for pulling your dress up in the meeting when little?
by White Dove inhave you ever gotten slapped and dragged into the back room for a spanking because your mother or father accused you of pulling your skirt up during the meeting?
i was thinking of the little girls outgrowing their dresses and them becoming so short that it was hard to sit 2 hours with the skirt pulled down over your knees or just above, at the very least.
my sister's and my dresses were always too short when we sat down and could only keep them pulled down to a decent length when standing, not sitting.

Saturday morning CARTOONS! YAY!!! My mom never took us in service, ever. However, when I stayed with my grandparents, we did go out in service on Saturday mornings, but I loved being with them because they made it fun and we ate out at restaurants afterwards. I did envy the little kids at the doors who had the tv on then. I tried to watch it while the grown ups were talking. I really liked all of the non-meeting evenings, but hated Sunday with every ounce of me. It was always cold in the mornings and I wore short socks with cute open shoes and short dresses. Freezing!

WAS THIS TRUE IN YOUR CONGREGATION ?
by juni indo you feel there was a "gap" between those who had more materially and those families or individuals who had less?.
example: did those who had "less" materially not get invited to private homes for get togethers as frequently or not at all?.
thanks for your input.. juni .

I was always a have-not but seemed to get invited to one or two events a year. I never thought about it before, but might there have been many more events that I was not aware of??? I did get irritated with a couple of couples and their families who got together for an opera trip to Seattle and talked about it right in front of me as if I was not even there. They even passed around pictures at the hall of them dressed up as if for prom, which is what you do for an opera, but at the hall??? Show offs! Hmmm...now that I think about it, there were a lot more events that were talked about among the attendees at the hall of which I was never invited to be a part. So much lip service about materialism and it's never put into practice by the leaders. They even said from the platform not to talk about plans in front of people that you had no intention of inviting for hurting their feelings. People will be people and WILL flaunt their goods in front of the have-nots.
We have-nots need to develope a tougher skin, get past it, and start inviting people over to our homes for tea and toast, at the very least.
WAIT!!! I did that! Many of them did not have the time. WHY, you may ask? They were PIONEERING and preparing for the meetings! UGH! Self-righteous snobs.

That's the problem, critical thinking is running full steam ahead. How can people have such strong faith again after leaving?

Yeah, that's true of a couple of my friends. It makes me think that they are right, but at the same time, I want Jesus to be true very badly. I sorta joked on another post about getting an Oija board to settle the debate within me once and for all. If it works, Jesus could be true. If not, I'll know.

Oh, good. For those of us still dealing with the "What if I'm wrong in leaving?" issues (departure ones), this is a comforting realization. It just about sealed it for me. I mean really, preaching something as absolute truth for decades then changing it (toggle switch off) makes me wonder about truth. I tend to believe that truth is absolute and doesn't change. Either something is true or it's false. What if we could time travel back to that time and preach the "more accurate new light?" We would be DF'd for presumptiousness or running ahead of the org. (how cultish it sounds to me now!). What if we preached "old light" now (does that mean dimmer light or darkness on the light bright meter?)? We would be DF'd for not accepting correction, as it would be our fault for missunderstanding the generation thing in the first place.
